Date: 10/08/15
Time: 1:00 PM
Location: Capen 227
Attendees: Dan Chelius, Dwight Robinson, Emilie Reynolds, Garrett Rice
The purpose of this meeting was to review the requirements for the second memo, develop a plan, establish a schedule a plan and start assigning individual tasks. After looking over the requirements we quickly realized that this memo is going to have to be worked on mostly as a group. The goal is to develop as many concepts as possible related to our product, and then begin filtering down and developing a final conceptual design.
We decided to do a brainstorming session in order to get ideas flowing. We started by verbally throwing out different ideas. I then recommended jotting these ideas on the chalkboard in order to make them more "concrete". This technique only got us so far. We did develop some ideas but I was not satisfied with the quantity or quality.
Next, I recommended a brainstorming technique that I learned from UB Design Club, brainwriting. This technique involves everyone in the group jotting down all of their ideas on a piece of paper in an allotted time period (we did 3 minutes). Each piece of paper was then passed to the person on the right and the 3 minutes started over. we did this until your original paper went around the group and back to you. This technique allows individuals to build off each others ideas without worrying about judgement they may receive in a more verbal exercise. This technique produced more concepts and ideas and was a good start to the brainstorming process.
